A Positive Suggestion

"Every day in every way, I feel better and better" is a variation on a quote by the late French psychologist Emile Coue. It is an example of a positive suggestion that hypnotists have used over the years with countless clients.




Here are some ways to create a positive suggestion:

Before beginning the process, breathe to relax.

State the suggestion in positive language, not negative. Instead of saying " I am not afraid," say things like "I am bold and courageous," "My perfect love casts out fear," or "I am now safe."

The suggestion should be repeated. Sometimes it is useful to repeat it in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd person voices. If, for example, you believe you are unworthy of love because of things that were said and done to you, then repeat statements like "I deserve love," "You, Billy [use your real name], deserve love" and " "He, Billy [use your real name], totally deserves love..."

Imagine a time when you felt the way you want to feel now. It doesn't matter how old you were or what you were doing. Use your five senses to recreate that moment, and at the height of your positive feeling, breathe in the suggestion. Let the feeling and the message flow through every cell of your body.

Note any objections to your positive suggestion. For instance, if your positive suggestion is "I am bold and courageous," a part of you might suggest otherwise:  "No way! Face it, you're a WIMP and you always will be. I have proof!  Remember that time when..." This is normal. These thoughts must be weeded out so that new, empowering thoughts can be planted, take root, and blossom. Hypnosis is a great garden tool. Keep breathing and continue writing and repeating your positive suggestion. If resistance to the positive suggestion is very strong, try this: " I am now willing to believe that I am bold and courageous."

There are many positive suggestions that might be appropriate to your needs. Often there is one that opens your heart immediately, evoking feelings of deep relaxation and gratitude when you see, hear or write it. It is a mirror of your true Self.  Go with that one first.
