HOW TO DO IT
1. Circle the date that you plan to quit on a calendar. Give yourself time to prepare. Three weeks is usually plenty of time.
2. Until that day, smoke cigarettes with the lowest amount of tar and nicotine such as Marlboro Filters Plus One and Virginia Slims Superslims. For other brands follow this link: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/8-lowest-tar-nicotine-cigarette-022830813.html
3. Make a list of all the benefits you will enjoy when you stop smoking. A suggested list is presented here. Be sure to add your own personal benefits. One way to do this is to breathe and center yourself then repeat the following: A benefit I will enjoy when I stop smoking and become smoke free is __________________________. Give yourself five minutes to complete the exercise. Remember to breathe while you wait for a new benefit to arise in your mind. You can make your benefits very specific, such as including the names of your children and grandchildren. The same goes for physical activities. If you walk, run, swim, hike, bike or play a sport imagine how being smoke free will improve your performance.
4. Make a list of the worst possible outcomes if you had continued smoking. Cancer, heart attack, stroke, emphysema, chronic cough, and fire are some.
5. Spend time in nature every day. Inhale the fresh air. Breathe in the scents around you. A walk by the ocean, a river, through a forest or a local park does wonders for the soul as well as the body.
6. Develop the habit of keeping a water bottle with you. Sip instead of smoke.
7. Select a stone or crystal that fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. This will be used to anchor you to resourceful inner states experienced during hypnosis.
8. Begin breathing exercises. There are many examples of yoga breathing, diaphragmatic breathing and qigong breathing on YouTube. When you stop smoking you will use the breath to relax and to energize.
9. Consider a hobby. Keep your hands busy. We are creative beings. Express yourself through arts, crafts, music, etc.
10. Value your life. "The whole universe is contained within a single human being -- you!" ~ Rumi
