Can I Be Hypnotized?

Close your eyes and  . . .

Picture a flower in your mind. Sense what it might feel like to walk barefoot in the grass on a summer day. Hear the sounds of birds singing and ducks splashing in a pond. Smell the scent of pine needles in a thick forest.

If you can do any of these things, then you are open to suggestion and can be hypnotized. If you are someone who doesn't "see" images but has a felt sense of something in your body, then you can be hypnotized.

Every day you drift into hypnosis just before falling asleep and again before waking up. When you become so absorbed in a task that you tune out the rest of the world, you are in hypnosis. When your brain waves slow down a little from the normal waking state and you enter an alpha state of light trance, your body relaxes and your mind becomes tranquil yet alert. You are open to suggestions. Go a little deeper and you enter the theta state which is the realm of meditation, inspiration and long-forgotten memories.

My personal experience with hypnosis began many years ago when I was pregnant. To overcome some anxiety about the birthing process, I saw a hypnotist who helped me prepare for labor and delivery. The sessions were deeply relaxing and I was able to let go of anxious thoughts. My daughter was born in a birthing center and we went home a few hours later. Since then, hypnosis has helped me to overcome a spider phobia and recover from traumatic loss. It has boosted my confidence and relieved physical discomfort. Having been such a profound gift for me, on so many levels, I am delighted to share its healing benefits with you.

Kintsugi or Kintsukuroi is the Japanese art of mending broken pots with gold, silver or platinum lacquer resin. The pots are considered even more beautiful, interesting, and valuable when they have been shattered and then made whole again.  People who experience themselves as broken often feel hopeless and helpless. Hypnosis can restore hope, transform feelings of helplessness, and guide you to a place of unbreakable wholeness within.
